Social SEO is definitely 2013 (and well beyond). Social SEO is basically all about the social networks like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Digg and of course Google’s own G+ and hundred of other sites that allow social interaction. It is these social signals that Google now look at to assess a sites polarity.
Currently it is just part of the measure that decided how well your site ranks but I am confident it’s importance will grow quickly in the future and become an even bigger influencer on Google’s SERPs.
Firstly it is very easy to measure social interaction. All social sites have some kind of voting system likes. Diggs, Tweets etc and all are freely available.
Secondly social networking is growing fast as most of the sites work well with smart phones and tablets and these are the new tools of the web.
The massive growth of social sites have transformed the way we live and will transform the search engines work.
If your Webpage is noticeable by it’s absence on the social scene then you are in trouble.
Social SEO is about three things
- Having accounts for the major social networks
- Linking to all your accounts from all your web pages to encourage visitors Like, Digg or Tweet you.
- Most importantly engaging in the social circles. That means actively joining or creating groups, communicating with your followers. Not just hammering them with sales pitches but becoming part of those social circles and gaining trust.
All that activity feeds back to Google and hence to your web pages. Another reason why branding is important. One keyword tweeted is just one keyword for one page. A brand tweeted can support and add to all your pages or even all your sites depending on how big your brand is.
